My Solar Installer Asked These 3 Crucial Questions before Suggesting the Best Solar Inverter for My House

Why was solar power required in this area?

Mr. Shashank decided to construct a home for himself and his family. They decided to get a house in Gurgaon in the Indian state of Haryana. The area where Shashank decided to get his house constructed was an area that experiences frequent power cuts of about 3 hours daily. Shashank required to have a power backup system for his home but he wondered how he should go about buying a long-lasting inverter and battery.

Shashank then approached his nearby dealer, Mr. Anil, who suggested him to install a solar system in his home.

Gurgaon receives an ample amount of sunlight. With an average of 11 hours and 50 mins of daylight in this month of March, a solar installation would bring all the right results.

Anil first asked him the following questions:

  1. What load do you want to run on your power backup system?
  2. What is your budget?
  3. Will you run any heavy/sensitive appliances on your backup system?

Shashank then replied, I want to run 2 tube lights (43 W each) and 2 fans (50 W each) on my inverter. I can afford to buy one battery and one inverter along with that minimum number of panels that can give me a few hours of backup in the day. He also specified that whenever the mains is available, it should charge the battery. During the day, solar should run the load.

So Anil found the perfect inverter to suit his needs and installed the following in his house.

Technical Specifications:

  1. Inverter: 1100VA
  2. Solar Panels: 300W
  3. Battery: 150AH

Load running and units generated

This solar system generates approximately 2 to 3 units of electricity every day depending on the weather conditions and runs 2 tube lights and 2 fans.

It is an intelligent off-grid solar system that runs both on solar and mains. For example, if they want to use mains power whenever it is available, they can select grid priority so that whenever mains are available the load will run on mains and battery will charge by mains. At all other times, it will give priority to solar. In the same way, one can select solar priority to maximum use of solar power at all times.

The installation was a success and Mr. Shashank is pleased with the outcome.

Mr. Anil says, “Mr. Shashank approached us with a requirement of installing a backup system for his home. We understood his load requirement and suggested for a solar system to be installed. This area experiences power cuts about 3 hours daily. System will run the load perfectly. The first one week we will monitor its performance closely”.
